Delta High School Opens its Doors to the Students

In a world driven more and more by science and technology, Delta High School offers a new approach to the traditional high school setting. Given a unique opportunity to learn in a highly personalized environment, students from Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland School Districts make up this small public school located in Richland, WA.
On August 27, 2009 community members, students, parents, educators, and staff gathered to officially open the doors to the Tri-Cities first Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) high school. The open house celebrated 5 years of hard work and determination to bring a school like this to our community. Battelle has been a proud sponsor and supporter of this school and an active partner in the development of Delta High School.
The week following the open house, just over 100 students began their high school tenure at this non-traditional school where students will gain a hands on experience focused on science and technology. The school officially opened its doors on September 1, 2009, with support from the State of Washington, Battelle, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Columbia Basin College, Washington State University, and area school districts.
More than 280 applicants submitted applications to attend the inaugural class of Delta High school. From this group a random draw was conducted and the future Class of 2013 fill the 110 slots available in the new school. Each year a similar process will be take place.
You can learn more about this school and its students on their website Delta High School and in a recent article from the Tri-City Herald Delta High School launches new era in Tri-City education.
