Editor's Note: Community Outreach
In this issue of Pacific Northwest Technology Today focuses on Community Outreach. Not only does our Community Outreach department assist in VIP Tours and Events, but takes an active role in our community service and volunteer programs in our community.
This past summer was an exciting time in Community Outreach for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Visitors from a variety of groups took the opportunity to visit PNNL and see the many programs and projects taking place at the Lab. From numerous Congressional Members, to staff members from Congressional Offices to the Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu, PNNL was happy to showcase our award winning technologies and cutting edge innovation. In addition to our visitors, PNNL was been active in Community Outreach in a number of other ways. Two of the featured programs are Team Battelle and Delta High School.
Team Battelle, at PNNL, is a staff driven volunteer program that supports various organizations throughout our region. In 2009, our Team Battelle volunteer group was awarded the Golden Heart by the Benton-Franklin Volunteer Center. A wonderful honor for our volunteers and a prime example of Battelle and PNNL are giving back to the community.
Battelle and PNNL were also active members in the development and start up of the Tri-Cities STEM secondary school, Delta High School. STEM schools are focused on Science, Technology, Education, and Mathematics. Delta High School opened its door this summer to more than 100 local freshmen who are excited to start this unique opportunity.
