No geological phenomenon assails our senses quite like a volcanic eruption. Many remember the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens and the restlessness of the mountain in late 2004 through 2005. Do you wonder if it will continue? Dr. Rohay used aerial photographs to expound on the history, seismicity, glacier and dome impacts, the 1980 eruption and current restlessness, and the possible future of Mount St. Helens.
Alan Rohay is a Senior Research Scientist in the Environmental Characterization and Risk Assessment group at PNNL. Dr. Rohay has conducted a variety of seismology projects in areas of seismic hazards, tectonics, seismic noise characterization, nuclear/chemical explosion and rock burst discrimination. He supports the Hanford Site by documenting historical and instrumental earthquake recurrence rates and seismic hazard analyses. He has a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Washington.
