The Benton-Franklin Humane Society a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals through education, providing spay/neuter assistance to low-income and elderly community members, and finding new homes for homeless pets, currently needs donations of puppy and kitten food, shredded paper (no plastic or staples please), cleaning supplies, and volunteers over the age of 13 years. EPIC Partners Mentoring Program, a nonprofit organization providing adult support to youth ages 11-17, currently needs adult volunteers willing to spend one hour a week working with an interested young person. The mentoring emphasis is similar to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. Anyone who applies to become a mentor must submit to a background check from the Washington State Patrol, Department of Licensing and the Division of Children and Family Services. Pet Over Population Prevention is seeking a volunteer position. The volunteer would be the official cleaner of the POP facility. Sweeping, cleaning windows, mopping when necessary, vacuuming,etc. are the tasks needed. This is a flexible once a week position. Contact: Kristin Manke, 372-6011
