Celebrating "12" SUCCESSFUL YEARS

When is the "For the Love of Giving" project?

"For the Love of Giving" Project will run this year from November 9 through December 11, 2009.

What is the "For the Love of Giving" project?

This holiday project is in its 12th year and it helps charity organizations meet many of their needs. This year we will help 21 nonprofit organizations. Each organization has provided a "Holiday wish list" including items such as office supplies, pet food, cat litter, toiletries, gifts for adults and children, etc.

Tags representing these organizations and their wish lists (items less than $25) adorn Holiday trees throughout the Laboratory. Each tree has a mix of tags from the different nonprofit organizations. A donation box for monetary donations is also available.

How can you help?

Locate one of the many trees in the Laboratory. Select a tag, and purchase any items listed on the back of the color tag. Place the purchased items under the tree with the appropriate tag to ensure correct distribution. No wrapped gifts please.

Special Requests:

The Special Request list below includes larger requests from participating organizations that we could use some help providing. Items on the wish list may be just the holiday project your family, division or department is looking for! If you or your organization is interested in adopting one or more these requests as a holiday project, please contact the Team Battelle Projects Directors listed at the bottom of this page for more details. For specific information on a special request listed below, contact the appropriate PNNL Organization POC. NOTE: For requests less than $20, see tree tags summary list.

Highlights from the Past 11 Years

The Team Battelle For the Love of Giving Project originated because of a simple idea from a staff member-provide help to several local non-profit organizations and make it easy for staff to participate. What started as a simple idea is now one of the largest annual Team Battelle Projects at the Lab.

To date, project volunteers have logged nearly 4,000 volunteer hours benefiting nearly 65 local non-profit organizations by assembling more than 40,000 tree tags resulting in almost $70,000 in monetary donations alone. In addition to monetary donations, staff have donated countless amounts of paper, CD's, batteries, office supplies Band-Aids, shampoos/conditioners, paper towels, diapers, baby supplies, bedding, paper plates, Kleenex, toothbrushes, detergents, laundry baskets, hand towels, hats, gloves, socks, coats, shoes, clothing, candy, board games, toys, videos and craft supplies.

And it doesn't stop there; volunteers also have generously donated food and supplies for many of the four-legged members of the community including horses, dogs, cats, guinea pigs and rabbits.

Wait, there's more. Many hours of volunteer labor have been donated to build a storage shed, lay a "big wheel" sidewalk, purchase and install a stackable washer/dryer, and construct a closet storage space.

Summary of Last Year's Success

"Thank You" Notes from Participating Agencies

Since the project originated 12 years ago, numerous thank you cards, letters, and emails have been received from the over 50 participating nonprofit agencies. While we are not able to share all of them, we can share some received in past years.
